For the first time there has been a set of books produced that feature 100
of the world’s best known fly tyers. This concept is the brainchild of
internationally known and highly respected fly tyer Steve Thornton out of
Great Britain. The idea was to produce a work not only about the flies that
these people tie but also about their lifestyles and ambitions. Steve has
been meticulous in designing this work, not only from the selection of fly
tyers who, as Steve states, are ‘the leaders in their field’ but design,
layout and paper selection; everything is top shelf. One of the greatest
compliments is the photography which is outstanding and a credit to Steve
and his skill with a camera.
The quality of these books is outstanding and because of this some think
they may be a little expensive but quality is not cheap and at £59.95, it’s
well and truly worth it.
What I am so pleased about is that seven of the Kossiedun fly tyers are
spread throughout this work; namely Steve Thornton, Hans van Klinken, Bob
Frandsen from Australia, Alberto Calzolari, Fabrizio Gajardoni, both of
Italy and yours truly Mick Hall and Malcolm Greenhalgh out of England.
The following is part of an impromptu review that I found on the Classic
FlyTying website:
“I
got my copy of Fly Tyers of the World, Vol 1, on Monday of this week. To say
it is a nice book is a major understatement. Volume 1 of this series has set
a standard against which any book of any style should be measured. This is a
spectacular book printed on fine paper that includes great reviews, images
and flies from each individual, and it even has its own special smell, the
aroma I suppose of quality and a work well done.
If you haven't bought this great series, it would be money well spent.
You'll see a quality of flies that will impress you, and you'll be trying to
figure out how you're going to tie that one or this one later in the day.
Flytyers of the World is a great and enjoyable book that you shouldn't
miss.”
